U-REA Eulogises HOMEF Nnimmo Bassey for Receiving the 2024 Wallenberg Medal for Humanitarian

The Executive Director of Urban-Rural Environmental Advocacy (U-REA) has heartily Congratulated Dr Nnimmo Bassey, the Executive Director Home of the Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) for receiving the prestigious 2024 Wallenberg Medal for Humanitarian Contributions.

Speaking to our Correspondent on what he termed ‘the well-deserved global recognition,’ God’spower Martins, U-REA Executive Director disclosed that Dr. Nnimmo Bassey is a leading environmentalist, architect, poet and humanitarian icon, who touched the lives of the downtrodden and less privileged in many positive ways.

Recall that the Wallenberg Medal of the University of Michigan is a humanitarian award given to outstanding humanitarians whose advocacy for the defenceless and oppressed reflect the heroic commitment and sacrifice of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish architect, business man, diplomat and humanitarian saved thousands of Jews in Budapest from German Nazis and Hungarian fascists during the later stages of World War II.

Dr. Bassey Nnimmo is the first Nigerian and the fifth African to receive the the honour, following Helen Suzman) 1992), and Archbishop Desmond Tutu (2008) of South Africa, Paul Rusesabagina of Rwanda (2005), and Denis Mukwege from Democratic Republic of Congo (2010).
