The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has stated that it has concluded plans to sign a revised Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with some transport unions in the country including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the National Association of Road Transport Owners, (NARTO) among others for smooth transportation of its sensitive materials for next year’s election tomorrow.
INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this on Monday while declaring open a Stakeholders’ Summit on Addressing the Influence of Money on 2023 general elections in Abuja.
Prof. Yakubu explained further that with the signing of the MoUs with these stakeholders efforts to ensure adequate protection of
sensitive and non-sensitive materials of the commission would have been guaranteed.
He also assured Nigerians of the commission’s readiness to conduct credible, free, and transparent polls stressing that with the MoUs, the Maritime and Workers Association Union of Nigeria (MWAUN), materials going through riverine communities will be protected.
He pointed out that with the understanding of NURTW and NARTO materials and goods of the commission in terms of sensitive and nonsensitive materials shall be transported freely without hindrances to the expected polling units and destinations.
