The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, has underscored the importance of continuous professional development for officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day retraining program for the Special Protection Unit (SPU) personnel, held at the Peace Keeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP reaffirmed his commitment to modernizing the Force and ensuring it meets contemporary global standards.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the program focused on sharpening both administrative and operational skills. Key areas covered in the comprehensive training includes; essential topics such as the roles and principles of administration, the fundamental duties of administrators, and extensive practical exercises on basic weapon handling techniques, musketry, and combat craft essentials.
The IGP emphasized his directive to all Police Commands and Formations to implement similar training programs, noting that such reorientation courses would become a regular feature of the NPF training schedule, fostering professionalism and ensuring that personnel are equipped to tackle modern security challenges effectively.

This initiative is part of the IGP’s broader vision to incorporate Policing Ethics and Professional Conduct as a continuous training subject for every Police Officer. The Inspector-General has mandated that each Police Officer participate in a course on this topic at least once annually, thereby, reaffirming his commitment to boosting the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force in a rapidly evolving society, aiding the Nigeria Police Force in carrying out its duties seamlessly.
Currently, the Nigeria Police Force has deployed over 360 officers from the Safe School Protection Squad (SSPS) for a specialized training program at the Police Mobile Force Training Camp in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State. This initiative is part of the Force’s strategic efforts to bolster the safety and security of educational institutions nationwide, ensuring a safe learning environment for students and staff.
