The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sentiments over the death of retired Major General Godwin Osagie Abbe, calling it a sad moment for the people of the State, in particular and the military community of the country.

In a Statement by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, signed a statement on December 26, 2024, he announced the governor’s condolences on the passing of retired General on Saturday, at age 75, after a prolonged illness. Abbe, a former Minister of Defence and Interior.

Governor Okpebholo described Abbe as “a legendary son” of Edo State, praising his discipline, dedication, and service to the nation.

Okpebholo also highlighted Abbe’s distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, his tenure as Military Governor of Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, and his roles as Minister of Defence and Internal Affairs.

He emphasized Abbe’s exceptional leadership qualities, commitment to the well being of the Nigerian people, and his enduring legacy.

The governor extended his condolences to the Abbe family, the government and people of Edo State, and the entire nation, praying that General Abbe’s soul rests in peace.
