In a significant move by Nigeria’ justice sector to leverage technology, it has launched JusticeTechNG 2025, the country’s first national hackathon and accelerator program focused exclusively on justice innovation. The initiative is championed by Fernandez Marcus-Obiene, the Special Assistant to Nigerian President on Justice Sector Reform and ICT/Digital and Innovative Technology.

According to the convener, the JusticeTechNG 2025 marks a pivotal step toward reimagining how justice is accessed, delivered, and experienced in Nigeria. By harnessing the power of innovation and technology, we aim to create practical, scalable solutions that address the everyday challenges faced by Nigerians within the justice system.
The program will encompass various stages beginning with a 3-day Hackathon (June 3–5, 2025) which aims to be bring together cross-functional teams of developers, designers, legal experts, and entrepreneurs to co-create tech-enabled solutions addressing issues such as Case backlog and judicial delays, Access to legal aid, Court process automation, Evidence and case management systems, and Citizen feedback and dispute resolution platforms, etc.

The selected top teams from the hackathon will move into the 4-week Accelerator (June 10–July 10, 2025), receiving mentorship, legal and technical support, and access to key justice sector data and stakeholders.
The program will culminate in a Demo Day, where teams will pitch their solutions to a panel of senior judges, policymakers, private investors, and development partners, with the aim of securing funding and partnerships for pilot implementation.
JusticeTechNG 2025 is being delivered in partnership with several justice reform stakeholders including the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC), international development agencies, and technology incubators.
Speaking on the initiative, the SA-to-President, Marcus-Obiene said, “JusticeTechNG is about empowering young Nigerians to create real-world solutions to the challenges we face daily in our courts, police stations, correctional centres, and legal aid systems. If we want transformation, we must invest in ideas, people, and platforms that are bold and local.”

The program is being organised by a multi-disciplinary committee chaired by Abiola Jimoh, a technology policy professional with experience across government and development sectors. Jimoh emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative:
“This is not just a hackathon. It’s a coordinated national push to build a pipeline of scalable solutions that can be tested, adopted, and scaled by justice institutions. We are building for impact.”
JusticeTechNG will feature teams of developers, lawyers, civic actors, and designers building digital solutions around key focus areas including access to justice, court administration, digital legal awareness, crime reporting, prison reintegration, and justice sector transparency.
Teams will compete for up to ₦22 million in prizes and support, including seed funding, technical assistance, and pilot opportunities with government and civil society stakeholders.
JusticeTechNG 2025 is guided by a high-level Advisory Board composed of leaders from the judiciary, legal practice, government, academia, and civic technology. Members include senior advocates, former attorneys-general, digital policy experts, and heads of legal technology firms. Their role is to provide strategic direction, credibility, and alignment with long-term justice reform goals.
