The Lagos State Government has officially debunked a widely circulated flier on social media claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to stop arresting motorists.

The flier, which went viral on Wednesday, falsely quoted the governor as saying that LASTMA should only manage traffic and leave arrests to other “appropriate authorities.” It also included supposed hotlines for motorists to call if LASTMA officials tried to enter their vehicles.

However, in response to the viral claim, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Jubril Gawat, dismissed the report as “fake news.” He clarified that no such directive was issued by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
This denial underscores the importance of verifying information from official government channels before sharing or acting on social media content.

LASTMA officials, as of now, retain the authority to enforce traffic laws, including stopping and penalizing erring motorists.
