In a bold and unified demonstration, members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ota Branch, proudly known as “The Utter Bar,” marched through the streets of Ado-Odo Ota today, wielding placards that captured the community’s mounting frustration: “Good Roads Are a Right, Not a Privilege!”, “Fix Ota Roads Now!”, “Stop Killing Us! Fix Our Roads,” and “When Justice Gets Stuck in Traffic, the People Suffer.”

The peaceful protest unfolded during NBA Ota Week – an event intended to celebrate legal excellence and community service – transforming into a powerful platform for urgent action. Dozens of lawyers, dressed in their distinctive black suits and green NBA sashes, marched from the Ota High Court along the severely damaged Sango-Idiroko and Joju routes. A Black SUV escort van with Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Police Force monitoring the procession, underscoring the daily dangers faced on these treacherous roads.
All major roads connecting Ota – including the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway stretch, Sango-Idiroko, Songo Joju, Oju-Ore, Lafenwa-Itele, and Bible College Road – are in complete disrepair. “We can’t even reach Ota to handle cases,” declared NBA Ota Branch Chairman, Chief Mrs. K.K. Ajose, her voice cutting through the noise of stranded vehicles. “Our professionals are unable to attend court hearings on time, causing delays in justice for the vulnerable. This is not just poor infrastructure – it is a direct assault on the rule of law.”

Joined by branch executives including Treasurer Mariam Shakiru Taiwo, Financial Secretary Loretta Obioha, Publicity Secretary Ayo Ogundeji, Assistant Secretary Ademola Adewala Ige, and prominent members such as Femi Kumolu-Johnson, Ayoola Obaninuegbe, former Secretary Mrs. Funmi Ajele, and Mr. Eniayekan, Chief Mrs. Ajose highlighted the crippling impact on legal practice. “A journey from Lagos to Ota that should take 30 minutes now consumes two hours – if you arrive at all. During the rainy season, these roads turn into rivers of mud, swallowing vehicles. We are losing clients to frustration and, tragically, lives to preventable accidents.”

The NBA’s demand is clear and non-partisan: immediate action from Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Yayi (Ogun West), House of Representatives member Engineer Akinosi (Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency), and Ogun State House of Assembly members Hon. Yusuf Ibema and Hon. Is Centre Past. “Your Excellency, during this NBA Week, we urge you to declare a state of emergency on Ota roads,” Chief Mrs. Ajose stated. “This is the voice of Ado-Odo Ota’s people – not politics, but a plea for justice.”
Publicity Secretary Ayo Ogundeji reinforced the message: “This is an expression from the Ota Bar Association – pure, apolitical, and resolute. We will not rest until real action is taken.”
As the protest concluded under Ota’s hazy skyline, the lawyers dispersed with a firm commitment: no retreat until repairs begin. The burden now lies with Governor Abiodun and elected officials to transform promises into progress.

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new
to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for inexperienced
blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
