The Kebbi State Police Command and the state government have debunked rumours of a bomb explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo, clarifying that the incident on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, was caused by an inferno from overheated gas cylinders in air-conditioning units and refrigerators.
The loud blast, which occurred in the early hours within the hospital’s staff quarters, damaged one building but resulted in no casualties or injuries, authorities confirmed. Occupants had been safely evacuated prior to the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, stated that a joint investigation involving Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) experts, and tactical teams ruled out any explosive device, aerial attack, or terrorist involvement.

“The Kebbi State Police Command assures the public that the situation is fully under control,” Anisma said, urging residents to disregard unverified social media reports suggesting a bomb or helicopter strike.
Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, echoed the clarification, emphasising that preliminary findings pointed to a fire outbreak, not explosives. Security agencies have secured the premises, and measures are in place to prevent recurrence.
The incident sparked initial panic in the community, but swift response from security operatives restored calm.
