Justice Chizoba Orji of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the criminal defamation suit filed by the Federal Government against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central).
The ruling was delivered on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, following an oral application by the prosecution counsel, Aderonke Imana, representing the Attorney-General of the Federation, to discontinue the case.
Justice Orji granted the application and formally struck out the suit, bringing an end to the high-profile case that had generated significant public interest.
The defamation charge stemmed from comments Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly made in 2024 regarding the conduct of a former Kogi State governor, which the complainant claimed damaged his reputation.
Reacting to the development, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan thanked her legal team and supporters, describing the withdrawal as “a victory for truth and justice.”

Her lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), praised the court for upholding fairness and noted that the discontinuation vindicated his client.
No official reason was given by the prosecution for withdrawing the case, but sources close to the matter suggest it followed a review of evidence and public interest considerations.
The striking out means the case has been discontinued without prejudice, allowing the possibility of refiling in the future, though such a move is considered unlikely.
