Civil rights activist and former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has strongly warned that any political alliance or collaboration between former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari Ashiru, and opposition parties in Kaduna State aimed at unseating Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 governorship election is doomed to fail.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 16, 2026, Sani described the speculated coalition as “a desperate move built on quicksand” that lacks both moral legitimacy and broad-based support among the people of Kaduna.
“Governor Uba Sani has delivered visible dividends of democracy in infrastructure, education, health, security, and youth empowerment. The people see and feel the change. No amount of elite conspiracy or recycled political merchants can undo that trust,” Sani stated.
He accused the potential alliance of being driven by personal grievances and revenge rather than genuine concern for the state, adding: “El-Rufai left office with massive goodwill, but chose division and vendetta over unity. Kwari and others are merely riding on that bitterness. It will crash woefully.”

Sani, who served as senator from 2015 to 2019 and remains influential in Kaduna politics, urged the opposition to focus on constructive criticism and alternative policy offerings rather than “plotting palace coups.”
The warning comes amid growing speculation of a grand coalition against Governor Uba Sani, who has been praised by supporters for his calm leadership and steady development pace since taking office in 2023, but criticised by opponents for allegedly sidelining certain political interests.
Political watchers note that Kaduna remains one of the most volatile states ahead of 2027, with deep divisions between the El-Rufai and Sani camps within the APC and across opposition lines.
