Scores of workers from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Thursday, January 23, 2026, staged a peaceful but vocal protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, demanding the immediate removal of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The protesters, comprising civil servants, cleaners, drivers, and other junior staff across various FCTA departments, carried placards with inscriptions such as:
“Wike Must Go!”
“No More Oppression in FCTA”
“Pay Our Allowances & Arrears”
“Wike = Ole Ole Ole”
“Restore Our Dignity”

The demonstration took place outside the court premises where a case filed by FCTA workers’ unions against the minister and the administration over alleged unpaid allowances, poor working conditions, and victimisation is pending.

Key Grievances Highlighted by Protesters:
Non-payment of several months of allowances and entitlements.
Alleged high-handedness and arbitrary sackings of staff perceived as disloyal.
Poor welfare, lack of promotion, and hostile work environment.
Claims of favoritism toward political appointees and contractors close to the minister.

A leader of the protesters, who spoke anonymously for fear of reprisals, said: “We have endured too much suffering under this minister. He treats us like slaves. We are here to tell the world that Wike must go so that FCTA can breathe again.”

Security was tight around the Industrial Court complex, with police and FCT security personnel monitoring the protest to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The Minister’s media office has not issued an official response to the protest as of the time of filing this report. However, allies of Wike have dismissed the action as “politically sponsored” and “orchestrated by opposition elements to tarnish his image.”

The demonstration is the latest in a series of public outbursts against Wike since he assumed office as FCT Minister, with critics accusing him of high-handedness, while supporters credit him with aggressive infrastructure renewal in the territory.

This is a developing story.
