The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that civil servants and public workers are being coerced or intimidated into joining the ruling party during its ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 30, 2026, by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the APC described the accusations as “baseless, desperate, and symptomatic of opposition panic” as the party continues to witness massive influx of new members across the country.

Morka said: “The ADC and PDP are clearly rattled by the enthusiasm and growing numbers of Nigerians freely choosing to register with the APC. Instead of building credible alternatives, they resort to cheap propaganda and fear-mongering. There is no coercion, no intimidation, and no compulsion of any kind. The electronic registration is voluntary, transparent, and open to all Nigerians who believe in our Renewed Hope agenda.”

The APC spokesman pointed out that the registration portal has seen hundreds of thousands of new entrants in recent weeks, including civil servants, youth, women, and professionals from all geo-political zones, describing it as “a natural vote of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and the party’s performance.”

He challenged the opposition to provide verifiable evidence of any forced registration, adding: “If they have proof of coercion, let them present it. Otherwise, this is nothing but sour grapes and fear of irrelevance ahead of 2027.”

The statement comes amid heightened political tension following recent defections (including Kano Governor Abba Yusuf’s move from NNPP to APC) and the APC’s decision to extend electronic registration to February 8, 2026, while rescheduling ward congresses and the national convention.

PDP and ADC leaders have repeatedly claimed the ruling party is using state institutions and federal might to swell its ranks artificially, especially among public servants.

The APC countered that membership growth is organic and driven by visible achievements in infrastructure, security, economic reforms, and social investment programmes.
