A substantial majority of Republican voters continue to support President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement policies including mass deportations, expanded ICE operations, and the use of military force despite the fatal shooting of two protesters by an ICE agent in Minneapolis last month, according to multiple new polls released this week.

The incident, which occurred during a large-scale raid in south Minneapolis on January 7, 2026, and left a 37-year-old woman dead, has sparked protests, legal scrutiny, and national debate over the tactics employed under the renewed crackdown. Yet recent surveys indicate the policy retains strong backing within the Republican base.

The polls show the Minneapolis deaths and subsequent protests have had limited impact on overall Republican support, though a small but growing minority now voices unease about the intensity of operations, civilian casualties, and militarized tactics.

Analysts say the data reflects deep partisan polarization: Republicans largely view aggressive enforcement as essential to border security and public safety, while the emerging dissent remains a minority view within the base.
