The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has summoned the chairmen of six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over an indictment of N100 billion in financial mismanagement and irregularities contained in the 2022 and 2023 audit reports by the Auditor-General for the Federation.
The affected chairmen are those of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji Area Councils. They are required to appear before the committee on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, along with their treasurers, directors of finance, and internal auditors.
The summons was issued following the consideration of the Auditor-General’s query reports during the committee’s sitting on Thursday, February 6, 2026, chaired by Hon. Bamidele Salam (Osun West).
Key Allegations in the Auditor-General’s Report
Unaccounted funds exceeding N100 billion across the six councils between 2022 and 2023.
Irregular expenditure without proper documentation or approval.
Failure to remit internally generated revenue (IGR) to the FCT Administration.
Non-compliance with procurement guidelines.
Diversion of funds meant for salaries, projects, and overheads.
Hon. Salam described the scale of the alleged infractions as “alarming and unacceptable,” stressing that the committee will not tolerate any attempt to sweep the matter under the carpet.

“The Auditor-General has raised very serious red flags. We are talking about over N100 billion of public funds. The chairmen must appear in person with all relevant documents. No excuses, no proxies. If they fail to honour this invitation, we will invoke our constitutional powers, including issuing warrants of arrest,” the chairman warned.
The committee also directed the FCT Administration, the FCT Area Council Service Commission, and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to appear and provide explanations on oversight lapses and remittances.
The development is the latest in a series of probes into FCT Area Council finances, following similar indictments in previous years that led to limited recoveries and prosecutions.
