Former Bayelsa State Governor and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has delivered one of his most scathing assessments yet of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing its leaders particularly governors of arrogance, entitlement and serial leadership failures that have pushed the once-dominant party to the brink ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking against the backdrop of Nigeria’s deepening political and economic crisis, Dickson said anxiety over the country’s direction has been worsened by the unresolved internal implosion within the PDP, which he described as avoidable and self-inflicted.

In a wide-ranging interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the former governor did not hold back: “The PDP is not in a good position right now. Quite frankly, the leaders of PDP have messed up completely.”

He specifically targeted PDP governors and successive National Working Committees (NWCs), accusing them of routinely taking unilateral strategic decisions without consultation, only to later scramble for bailouts when those decisions backfire.

“The governors and the NWCs have displayed arrogance and entitlement. They believe they can do whatever they like because they control the party structure and resources. That arrogance has brought us here.”

“They make decisions without broad consultation, without listening to the wider party family, and when the consequences come, they run around looking for solutions instead of accepting responsibility.”

“This crisis is self-inflicted. It is a failure of leadership a lack of vision, discipline and collective responsibility.”

“If we do not change course urgently, the PDP risks becoming irrelevant in 2027. The APC is not perfect, but it is united at the top. We are divided and bleeding.”

Dickson also lamented the party’s inability to capitalize on public discontent with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the PDP’s internal battles have overshadowed any coherent opposition message.

The outspoken senator, who served as Bayelsa governor from 2012 to 2020 and has been a vocal critic of both the APC administration and PDP’s internal leadership, called for an urgent return to internal democracy, consultation and humility within the party.

His comments come amid ongoing PDP crises in states like Rivers (Wike vs Fubara), Kano (post-Yusuf defection fallout), and at the national level (Damagum vs Turaki parallel claims), with multiple court cases and factional secretariats still unresolved.
