In a powerful demonstration of unity and urgency, the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ruler of Otta land, Awori Kingdom, His Majesty Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode, Olofin Apesin Olode), on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, led a high-powered delegation to the scene of the tragic fuel tanker accident at Otta Tollgate that claimed many lives on February 17, 2026.

The delegation which include Ogun State Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Executive Chairman, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adewale Lawal, FCA, The Ajana of Ijana Otta, Oba Clement Olusegun Akinyemi, Baale Ejigbo, Baale Akingbade and Heads and senior officers of all major security agencies operating in the state: Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, FRSC, TRACE, So-Safe Corps, Amotekun, and others. Inspected the accident site, assessed the extent of damage to the tollgate infrastructure, reviewed traffic flow patterns, and held an on-the-spot security and safety briefing with stakeholders.

Olota of Otta, Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege: “The repeated loss of lives at this same spot is no longer acceptable. We are here today not just to mourn, but to commit to decisive, coordinated and sustainable action that will permanently end these tragedies. Eledumare will continue to protect our people, and we shall honour the departed by ensuring no more families suffer this pain.”

Ogun Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele: “Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed that no stone be left unturned. We are working with all agencies to implement immediate short-term traffic calming measures and fast-track long-term engineering solutions. The safety of our people is non-negotiable.”

Ado-Odo/Ota LG Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adewale Lawal: “This is our collective responsibility. We will collaborate with the state government, FRSC, TRACE and security agencies to enforce stricter speed limits, install additional signage, speed breakers, pedestrian bridges where needed, and improve tollgate operations to prevent future occurrences.”

The delegation observed a minute’s silence for victims of the February 17 accident and all previous crashes at the location, praying for the repose of their souls and comfort for grieving families.

Residents and commuters have welcomed the high-level visit, describing it as “the strongest signal yet that government is taking the crisis seriously.”
