PDP House of Assembly aspirant for Ado-Odo/Ota Constituency 1, Hon. Jinad Hammed Abiodun (Otunba), has expressed deep sympathy to the families of victims of the tragic fuel tanker accident at Otta Tollgate on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, which claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction.

In a heartfelt statement released on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Otunba Jinad described the incident as “a painful and immense loss of lives and properties” and extended prayers for swift recovery to the injured.

He wrote: “We sympathise deeply with the family of those who lost their lives and the entire Ado-Odo/Ota community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the bereaved families in this heavy moment and those who sustained injury are wished a very swift and full recovery.”

Otunba Jinad appealed directly to the government and officials visiting the scene, urging them to go beyond “photo-shots” and take concrete, responsible action to prevent future occurrences.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident raise serious concerns about possible maintenance on the roads across Ogun State, maintenance of possible setback by the law enforcement agencies and issues of driver discipline and road safety enforcement review,” he stated.

Otunba concluded with prayers: “To the grieving family; your tears are our tears, and your despair is a weight we carry together. We share in your grief and we honor the memories of those we lost. May Almighty Allah grant them the best in the hereafter. In same vein, we pray none of us fall victim of road accident and thy Lord’s protection continue to be sufficient for us and our families. May same or similar tragedy never happen in our land again.”

The accident has renewed calls for urgent intervention at the notorious Otta Tollgate, which has recorded multiple fatal crashes in recent years.
