The Jigawa State Government has approved an upward review of the monthly allowance for ward heads, popularly known as Maiunguwa, increasing it from N3,000 to N10,000.

The decision was taken during the State Executive Council meeting held on March 9, 2026, and presided over by the Governor of the state, Umar Namadi.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nura Ibrahim, disclosed that the increment reflects the administration’s recognition of the vital role traditional institutions play in governance and grassroots administration.

According to him, the move demonstrates the governor’s empathy and appreciation for the contributions of ward heads across the state.

“This gesture characterises the sympathy of the Namadi administration and underscores the confidence reposed in our ward heads,” Ibrahim said.

He explained that the government’s all-inclusive governance approach is aimed at ensuring that no segment of society is left behind, particularly the ward heads whom he described as the “traditional foot soldiers” responsible for implementing government directives at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, the council also approved N1 billion as counterpart funding for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) Scale-Up initiative.

Ibrahim noted that the funding is intended to strengthen agricultural development in the state by improving rural infrastructure and boosting food security.

According to him, the project will focus on constructing access roads that will facilitate the smooth transportation of farm produce from rural farming communities to urban markets.

The state government said the combined investment in both human capital and rural infrastructure is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and promote stability at the grassroots level in Jigawa State.
