Social media influencer and philanthropist Mitchell Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, has tendered a public apology following weeks of intense online controversy involving her clash with activist commentator Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan.

In a video posted on her Instagram page on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Mitchy addressed Nigerians directly, admitting fault in her conduct during the heated exchange and accepting responsibility for her actions.

“Good morning, Nigerians. I am ready to be held accountable for my actions. For some days, I have thought about my behaviour, and I know that I was wrong, and I want to be held accountable.”

On consuming a substance (believed to be hypo) during a distressing live session: “For the substance I took on a live video, that was very wrong of me because there are young girls looking up to me one day, and I know I disappointed a lot of people.”

To Seyi Tinubu: “And my boss, ST, I am so sorry. I know I apologised privately, but I did not disrespect you privately, I disrespected you publicly, so I want to apologise publicly. I am so sorry.” “To the Ooni of Ife, I am so sorry for bringing your name into this. I am so sorry, Daddy.”

To VeryDarkMan: “And to Verydarkman, my brother, I see what you are fighting for. You are fighting for Nigeria, and we can make Nigeria a better place. I am sorry for coming at you like that. Maybe now I understand you better because I had to stay back and understand the kind of person you are, and I see that you are fighting for a good cause, for Nigeria to be better. You need more supporters, not people to fight you. I am sorry, my brother.”

The drama began after Mitchy announced she had renovated a dilapidated school in Delta State within six days, using the project to demonstrate that meaningful change could happen quickly with genuine commitment. In one post, she wrote: “I have never seen anyone with integrity explain everyday that he/she has integrity. I did this in six days to show you how easy it is if you truly want to do something. Lastly, I know a lot of damaged schools. Government teachers even pray for you on top.”

The statement was widely interpreted as a subtle jab at VeryDarkMan, who has frequently criticised slow government action on infrastructure and social issues. VeryDarkMan responded with a series of videos accusing Mitchy of being politically used to launder the image of the Tinubu administration. He tagged President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, writing: “@Seyitinubu YOUR FATHER FIRST 4years failed so bad that ministry of education stopped working, so you need mitchy to renovate schools (CITY BOY MOVEMENT, RTIFN, MITCHYY) these are product of your father’s failures, @officialasiwajubat won’t need michyy and co if his first term was good… THAT POLITICAL TOOL YOU PEOPLE KEPT UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF D and charity.”

The exchanges escalated rapidly. Mitchy warned: “Bro, I promise you this. The day you come for me will be the beginning of your downfall.” VeryDarkMan later alleged threats to his life from both Mitchy and Seyi Tinubu.

Doubts emerged about the extent of the school renovation after videos showed parts of the building still appearing damaged. Mitchy later shared transaction receipts indicating she spent over ₦1 million on the project.

The controversy reached a peak when Mitchy appeared distressed in a live video, reportedly consuming a substance believed to be hypo, raising widespread concern. Her management initially announced her death at Prime Care Hospital in Abuja a claim the hospital swiftly denied. The announcement was later retracted, with clarification that she was alive and recovering.

Seyi Tinubu’s Response Seyi Tinubu posted on Instagram, denying any impropriety: “I met Mitchy once, in a public setting, alongside others. On that occasion, I provided financial support toward her NGO activities, just as I have supported many young Nigerians and organisations working to empower our people. A follow-up meeting had been scheduled for me to receive an update on the impact of her NGO’s work following the donation. That meeting did not take place because I have been unwell.

“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind. What is deeply concerning is that a feud I did not start, and in which I have played no part, has been used as a vehicle to insert my name into a narrative without basis in truth.”

The public apology from Mitchy is seen by many as a significant step toward de-escalating the drama, though reactions online remain mixed.
