The wave of defections in the House of Representatives continued on Wednesday, with four lawmakers from Kano State dumping the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The lawmakers are Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko) federal constituencies. Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the defection notices during plenary.

In a related development, two other lawmakers also announced changes in party affiliation. Kabiru Amadu, popularly known as Maipalace, representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, and Emeka Chinedu (Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte, Imo State), defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers cited internal crises within their former parties as the primary reason for their decisions.

The latest defections further boost the growing influence of the ADC, which has attracted several lawmakers in recent weeks amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. On Tuesday, Hon. Thaddeus Attah (Eti-Osa, Lagos) left the Labour Party (LP) for the ADC, while Usman Zubairu (Kaduna) and Sani Noma (Kebbi) also joined the party from the APC and other platforms.

Observers say the increasing rate of defections reflects deepening internal disputes within major parties and early positioning by politicians ahead of the 2027 elections. The trend is expected to continue in the coming months as lawmakers and political actors realign their loyalties in search of stronger platforms and electoral advantage.
