President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of strategic appointments and renewals in key institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, in a move aimed at strengthening technical education, examination systems, and knowledge management across Nigeria. The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The President appointed Modupe Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), while retaining Ibrahim Wushishi as Registrar.

Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014, and as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) from 2018 to 2021. For the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the President appointed Babatunde Salako as Chairman.Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), served from 2016 to 2024 and is expected to bring extensive experience in research and higher education governance.

Earlier, on April 10, President Tinubu also reappointed Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary of NBTE for a second five-year term. In Plateau State, Bongfa Binfa was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, for a single five-year tenure. Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, succeeds the pioneer Rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026. He previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and lectured at Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

The President also approved the renewal of the tenure of Chinwe Anunobi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. Anunobi, first appointed in September 2021, has overseen key reforms, including the launch of the National Repository of Nigeria, Newspaper and Magazine Locator, and the National Virtual Library. According to the presidency, the renewal is intended to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the National Library headquarters project, and implementation of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
