The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening exercise for aspirants vying for seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly has concluded with the clearance of 33 candidates, including all 29 incumbent lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The screening exercise ended on Sunday, May 10, 2026, and a copy of the committee’s final report was made available on Monday.

According to the report, a total of 33 aspirants were cleared to contest the APC primaries, while 65 others were disqualified.

The committee cited several reasons for the disqualification of the 65 other aspirants, including nomination by individuals who were not financially up-to-date members of the party, attempted inducement or bribery, submission of unsworn affidavits, failure to present voter cards or party membership slips, conflicting dates of birth, irregularities in documentation, and insufficient or invalid nominators, among others.

All 29 incumbent members, led by Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, were cleared to participate in the APC primaries for the 2027 Assembly elections.

The report stated that the committee concluded its assignment on May 10, 2026, and commended aspirants, party officials, and security personnel for their cooperation and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.

The screening outcome is seen as a major boost for the Wike-aligned faction within the Rivers APC as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.
