Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has thrown his weight behind fellow activist Aisha Yesufu’s bid for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, while criticising her decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Sowore made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Channels Television, where he emphasised that activists should actively participate in politics.

“No, I totally support her. I’ve always told her that good people, people who believe that they can do things, should get into politics,” he said.
He added that political participation is one of the highest forms of activism, stating, “The business of politics is actually the biggest activism that has to be done to save society.”
While expressing strong support for Yesufu’s ambition, Sowore said she was in the wrong party and should have joined his own platform instead.

“So I totally support her, and I hope she wins. Even though I think that she’s in the wrong party, she should have joined our party,” he added.
Yesufu recently resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she declared her intention to contest the FCT senatorial seat.
She explained that her decision was driven by deeper political conviction, stating she was following the leadership of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, “who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works.”

Yesufu added that she was not just joining the party as a member but as an aspirant for the FCT Senatorial seat.
She also noted that she had completed her responsibilities in the ADC and ensured a smooth exit before moving to the NDC.
The development reflects the ongoing realignment of opposition figures and activists ahead of the 2027 general elections, as various platforms position themselves to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
