Iran’s Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of presenting “unreasonable” and “one-sided” demands in ongoing negotiations to end the war, as both sides maintain a fragile ceasefire amid rising global tensions.
Iran submitted its response to a US proposal via Pakistan on Sunday, according to Iranian state media. US President Donald Trump quickly branded Tehran’s terms as “totally unacceptable” in a post on his Truth Social platform.

At a press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei insisted that Iran’s counterproposal was both legitimate and generous. He called for an immediate end to the war, the lifting of the US blockade, and the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad.
“We did not demand any concessions. Our demand is legitimate: demanding an end to the war, lifting the [US] blockade and piracy, and releasing Iranian assets that have been unjustly frozen in banks due to US pressure,” Baghaei said.

He added that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and security in the region, including Lebanon, were also part of Iran’s “generous and responsible offer for regional security.”
Trump, in his Truth Social post, made it clear he rejected Iran’s response, though he did not provide specific details on its contents.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” he wrote.

Analysts say both sides appear to be holding firm on their positions, with the international economy and populations in the Gulf bearing the brunt of the impasse.
Oil prices rose sharply following Trump’s comments, with Brent crude climbing 4.65% to $99.95 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate surging over 4% to $105.50 per barrel. The increases reflect investor fears of further disruptions to supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has imposed a partial blockade.

Baghaei also addressed plans by European countries, led by France and the UK, to deploy warships to the region to ensure safe navigation.
He warned Europeans against “succumbing to the US and Israeli hubris,” saying any intervention in the Strait of Hormuz or the Persian Gulf would only complicate the situation and drive up oil prices.
The UK and France are set to host a multinational meeting of defence ministers on Tuesday to discuss restoring trade flows through the critical waterway.
