The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections, with former governors Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Senator Gbenga Daniel named as Deputy Grand Patrons.
The placement of Amosun and Daniel alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun is highly significant, given the long-standing political tensions among the three major power blocs in the state.
Amosun fiercely opposed Abiodun’s rise, openly backing alternative candidates against him in both the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections. For years, the two ran parallel factions within the state’s APC.

Despite Daniel supporting Abiodun in 2019, relations later fractured. The tension escalated when Ogun East APC stakeholders controversially endorsed Abiodun to take over Daniel’s Senate seat for 2027 — a move that saw Daniel blocked from party meetings and later led him to openly challenge Abiodun to a live television debate.
Ogun State politics relies heavily on regional structures. Aligning these three forces creates a potentially formidable electoral machine for the APC.
Amosun retains immense loyalty and a strong grassroots structure in Ogun Central.
Daniel commands deep-rooted influence and a highly organised political network across the Ogun East Senatorial District.
Abiodun holds the executive power, state apparatus and resources as the sitting governor.

By bringing the structures of Dapo Abiodun, Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel under one roof, the APC has effectively consolidated the state’s three most powerful political networks.
Party stakeholders believe this consolidation will drastically reduce internal friction and anti-party voting, creating a more united electoral front that will be difficult for opposition parties to dismantle ahead of the 2027 elections.
