Police in the United Kingdom have launched an intensive manhunt for a 25-year-old Nigerian national, Temitope Segun, after he escaped from a prison transport vehicle in South East London on Monday evening.

The escape occurred around 6:40 p.m. near Woolwich High Street. Segun was last seen in the area wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers.

Investigators believe he has strong links to Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich, where search efforts have been heavily concentrated.

The Metropolitan Police have warned members of the public not to approach him if sighted but to immediately contact emergency services.

Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning, who is leading the operation, said officers are working relentlessly to trace and apprehend the fugitive.
“My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun. It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him or know where he may be,” she stated.

Police have appealed for information, quoting reference number 2270/10JUN. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crimestoppers.

The incident has renewed concerns about custodial security procedures in the UK, especially following a series of recent escapes and security breaches involving inmates.

Investigations into how Segun managed to escape are ongoing, while efforts to track him down continue.
