The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally filed a stay of execution on Monday’s Federal High Court judgment regarding the tenure elongation suit filed by local government chairmen elected under the party.

The party noted that the court, on Monday, ruled that the tenure of its local government chairmen expired in October 2025, a decision that has sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape.

Director of Media and Information for Osun APC, Kola Olabisi, confirmed that the party has already taken decisive legal steps to challenge the judgment at a higher court.

Olabisi disclosed that a notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution have been filed, insisting that no enforcement action can be taken against the affected chairmen until the appeal is determined.

He explained that the Court of Appeal in Abuja is already handling appeals from earlier interlocutory rulings in the case and has fixed September 28, 2026, for further hearing.

The development has triggered intense political reactions across Osun State, with many viewing the court ruling as a major setback for the APC’s grassroots control. Analysts say the judgment could reshape local governance dynamics, especially as the state gears up for the 2027 general elections.

The Osun APC has maintained a firm stance, describing the legal battle as far from over. Party leaders have urged supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast while the matter is pursued through all available legal channels.

Political watchers note that the outcome of the appeal could have significant implications not only for Osun State but for similar tenure-related disputes in other parts of the country.
