Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday hosted Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, the PDP Governorship Candidate for Ogun State, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and other PDP candidates at his penthouse in OOPL during a courtesy visit.

The meeting was described as both a strategic consultation with the elder statesman and a demonstration of unity within the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

During the closed-door discussion, Chief Obasanjo reportedly delivered a pointed message on political strategy, stating that in the 2027 election, Lagos must not be a liability to Ogun State.

The remark was interpreted by political observers as a strong call for Ogun PDP to protect the state’s political independence and avoid over-reliance on external influences, funding, or alignments from neighbouring Lagos State. It emphasised the need for the party to build strength from within Ogun’s constituencies and focus on local priorities.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu expressed profound appreciation to the former President, describing him as the only leader who has delivered tangible socio-economic development to Ogun State.

Adebutu stressed that such progress “will not be diffused by a stranger,” reinforcing his campaign’s commitment to indigenous leadership and a “Fresh Start, Stronger Ogun” agenda.

The high-level engagement is seen as a major boost for the Ogun PDP, signalling a renewed push to consolidate its base across the three senatorial districts. Party leaders believe the visit will help project a message of credible leadership, grassroots mobilisation, and politics of service rather than external control.

With the backing of Chief Obasanjo and the alignment of key senior figures, including Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, the PDP appears determined to enter the 2027 race with a united front that prioritises the interest of Ogun voters.
