David Oyedepo, founder and presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, says the federal government has not done enough to curb the spate of killings across Nigeria.
He added that those responsible for the killings should not expect him to pray for them.
Speaking during the church’s Sunday service on August 2, Oyedepo said he would instead pray against those perpetrating the attacks and their sponsors.

“You can’t slaughter members of my family and expect me to pray for you,” Oyedepo said.
“I will pray against you, against your household and against your generation, in the name of Jesus.”
The cleric also alleged that those behind the attacks were being sponsored, saying their backers would face divine judgment.
Oyedepo said he had remained silent for a long time but believe the time has come for God to intervene.

He added that anyone perpetrating evil or sponsoring killings would have nowhere to hide from the wrath of God.
“Everybody knows that these wicked people are being sponsored. Anyone who doesn’t know that, that’s a problem,” he said.
“Every sponsor of killers in Nigeria, you come under a curse today.
“I have been quiet for a long time, but the bubble is about to burst.”
Oyedepo criticised the government’s response to worsening insecurity, saying he has not heard an official condemnation of the killings.

“I have not heard any statement from government quarters against the killings. I’m yet to hear one,” he said.
“Are human lives no longer of value anymore? The government is pretending like they don’t know what to do.”
However, contrary to Oyedepo’s claim, the federal government has repeatedly condemned attacks by terrorists and other violent groups, although it has often been criticised for not backing its statements with commensurate action.
In June, when 42 villagers were killed in Niger State by armed men suspected to be fleeing military operations in Sokoto and Zamfara, Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, issued a statement condemning the attack on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The president also condemned the abduction of over 45 pupils and teachers from a school in Oyo State, directing security agencies to ensure the victims’ safe rescue and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Oyedepo’s comments come amid a wave of killings and abductions across the country, including attacks on schools, communities and places of worship.
In recent months, several worshippers have also been kidnapped during church services.
On Sunday, gunmen abducted a seminarian and two worshippers during a service in an Enugu community.

Earlier in July, police rescued worshippers kidnapped during a vigil in Ekiti, while bandits also attacked a church in Kwara and abducted eight worshippers.
