Residents and indigenes of Kooko Ebiye in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have been thrown into mourning following the death of the Onikooko of Kooko Ebiye, Ota, His Royal Highness Oba Joel Fashina.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, the Oluwo of Kooko Ebiye, Ota, High Chief Olatunji Oyetoro, confirmed that Oba Joel Fashina breathed his last after a brief illness.

The High Chief expressed deep sadness over the news and described the late monarch as a respected traditional ruler whose reign left a lasting impact on the community.

He noted that Oba Fashina, who reigned for almost a decade, has left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill by his family, the kingmakers, Baales and the entire Kooko Ebiye community.

High Chief Oyetoro prayed that God would grant the soul of the departed monarch eternal rest.

Reports indicate that Oba Joel Fashina was installed in February 2017 and reigned for over nine years. Plans were already underway for the celebration of his 10th coronation anniversary before his sudden demise.

Meanwhile, condolences have begun pouring in as kingmakers, Baales, family members and residents of the community send messages of sympathy to the Onikooko-in-Council.

The people of Kooko Ebiye and Ado-Odo/Ota are expected to observe traditional rites in honour of the late monarch in the coming days.
