Abeokuta, Ogun State – September 14, 2026

DDNewsOnline

Ogun State politics boiled over the weekend after a viral statement allegedly from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) surfaced, accusing the Ogun West senator of ignoring warnings and “running down” to Ogun to contest the 2027 governorship.

In the explosive quote circulating on WhatsApp and political groups, the President was alleged to have told Yayi:

“You were told to wait for your time in Lagos. You deaf and dumb to what we are saying. Now everyone in Ogun State — the kings, leaders, stakeholders, religious leaders, traditionalists, even children — are now pointing at me that I’m the one plotting to enter Ogun politics.”

The alleged statement went further to question Yayi’s political base, referencing claims about his background and asking why he left Lagos for Ogun.

“We all know your background that you’re from Ekiti and Lagos State is your second home. Why going to Ogun State to disturb them? What you’re performing in Ogun State, can someone try it in Lagos here?”

The statement named prominent Yewa/Awori sons such as Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, Akinlade and Otegbeye as people who “have put efforts for Yewa/Awori to stand,” as well as Ijebu/Remo’s Ladi Adebutu, who has contested three times, accusing Yayi of making them “point fingers that I’m selfish.”

In the most damaging part of the alleged remarks, the President was quoted as warning that Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state APC chairman “have spoiled everything” by sidelining influential leaders like Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

“Remember that Eleyi Dapo Abiodun cannot single-handedly win in Ogun State without my support… if you know what is good for you it’s better you rethink of what you’re doing because I don’t see green light for you in the coming election.”

The alleged rebuke also cited Abayomi Hunye, who is currently challenging the APC primary in court, as “a symbol that you’re not welcome to their mix.”

Despite the viral statement, the APC National Secretariat has repeatedly reaffirmed Senator Adeola as its authentic 2027 governorship candidate, with INEC acknowledgement already submitted. The party also declared Hunye suspended since April 2026.

Senator Yayi has not responded to the alleged presidential quote as of press time.

The statement has set social media on fire, with many Ogun indigenes asking tough questions about zoning, loyalty and “outsider” politics.

“Whether true or not, this conversation was bound to happen,” a political observer in Abeokuta said. “2027 will be decided by records, not rumors. But it will also be decided by who the people truly call their own.”
