The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has rejected political arrangements associated with the proposed “Rainbow Coalition” promoted by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached during a high-profile, closed-door meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. Following the meeting, the forum’s chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma, announced the resolution and released the communique to the public.
The APC governors emphasized that parallel cross-party structures would cause “divided loyalty” and directly harm party candidates.

As detailed in the communique read by PGF Chairman Governor Hope Uzodimma, the forum explicitly warned against any arrangement that creates “confusion, divided loyalty, or competing interests” within the party infrastructure.
While the Rainbow Coalition intends to mobilize cross-party support for President Tinubu, it leaves member parties free to field their own opposition candidates for state-level races. The PGF argues that this approach fractures the party base, leaving APC governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly candidates highly vulnerable.
The governors clarified that their campaign machinery will be exclusively dedicated to official candidates sponsored by the APC. They firmly rejected any dynamic that forces APC structures to share a platform with rival politicians at the grassroots level.

Wike clarified that he has never approached the APC Governors’ Forum for an alliance. He noted that his Rainbow Coalition is an independent vehicle working directly to pool cross-party support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
Wike rejected the idea that a cross-party coalition creates confusion. He cited examples like Osun, Anambra, and Abia states, where opposition governors openly support the president’s re-election while still backing their own local party candidates. He told the governors to go and learn how to manage voter patterns if they lack the capacity.
Wike emphasized that he is not answerable to APC governors and that President Tinubu is fully briefed on his political movements. He stated, “There is nothing that I have done that I have never told Mr. President.”
