James Abiodun Faleke has spent more than a decade in Nigerian public service, rising from local government administration in Lagos to becoming a federal lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Born on December 25, 1959, Faleke began his political career in Lagos, where he served as Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area. He later moved into federal politics and has represented Ikeja in the House of Representatives, where he currently chairs the House Committee on Finance.

His present position has placed him at the centre of some of the National Assembly’s discussions on taxation, government revenue and fiscal policy. In 2026, Faleke chaired a House committee reviewing tax incentives, waivers and exemptions granted between 2015 and 2025, amid concerns over revenue losses. The committee estimated that Nigeria could be losing about ₦8 trillion annually through various concessions and fiscal incentives.
Faleke has also played a role in the consideration of Nigeria’s medium-term fiscal plans. In December 2025, he presented the report of the joint Finance and National Planning committees on the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, which the House subsequently approved after further review of key assumptions.

Beyond his committee responsibilities, his political career has kept him closely connected to Lagos politics and the ruling All Progressives Congress. In the 2026 APC primaries, Faleke secured the party’s ticket to seek another term representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House.
For supporters of his continued involvement in government, his years of experience across local and federal administration are central to the argument. They point to his familiarity with public finance, legislative oversight and revenue matters as areas where his experience could continue to be deployed.
The debate over Faleke’s next political chapter therefore goes beyond his years in office. It also centres on whether his experience in local government and the National Assembly should continue to form part of the country’s public administration and legislative process.
