Political activities are gathering momentum in Ijaiye/Ojokoro as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties strengthen their grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC has intensified its ward and local-government mobilisation strategy across Lagos, with the party recently inaugurating a campaign council and directing members to increase voter engagement ahead of the elections.

The party has also announced plans to decentralise its campaign structure to the ward and local-government levels.
In Ojokoro, however, the ruling party is not without internal challenges.
Recent disagreements among APC stakeholders over party affairs and representation have exposed divisions within the local structure. In March, APC chieftain Mobolaji Sanusi protested the handling of party affairs in Ojokoro and called for greater inclusiveness in the local structure.
Opposition parties are also seeking to strengthen their presence ahead of 2027. Parties including the Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Action Congress (AAC) and others remain registered to participate in Lagos politics, while opposition groups continue efforts to build structures capable of challenging the APC’s dominance.

However, the opposition’s preparation in Lagos has also been affected by internal disagreements. Recent reports have highlighted nomination and organisational disputes within some opposition parties, raising questions about their ability to maintain a coordinated grassroots campaign against the APC.
The contrast between the parties is therefore becoming increasingly important in Ijaiye/Ojokoro. While the APC has an established political structure and is actively expanding its ward-level mobilisation, opposition parties are attempting to translate their political presence into stronger local organisations and voter engagement.
Beyond party structures, issues affecting residents could also shape the 2027 contest. Roads, security, electricity, employment, youth empowerment and other community concerns are likely to feature in conversations between candidates and voters.

Recent activities in Ojokoro have also placed local development on the political agenda. The Ojokoro LCDA administration recently announced the commissioning of six roads and a ₦100 million youth empowerment programme involving about 1,000 youths.
Such projects may become part of the political conversation as residents assess the performance of local leadership.
The emerging contest therefore presents voters with different factors to consider: the APC’s existing grassroots structure and record of mobilisation, the opposition parties’ attempts to expand their reach, the strength and popularity of individual candidates, and the ability of each party to respond to issues raised by residents.

At this stage, it would be premature to declare a definite winner for Ijaiye/Ojokoro in 2027. The APC currently has a visible and organised grassroots mobilisation structure, while opposition parties are working to strengthen their own structures and overcome organisational challenges.
The eventual result will depend on candidate selection, campaign effectiveness, voter turnout, local issues and the choices made by voters on election day.
