The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has demonstrated his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship with the media by donating an SUV to the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Amos Etuk, as his official vehicle.

The Governor who made the announcement during the 2025 Thanksgiving Service of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium LGA, also gifted a saloon car each to the ten other members of the State Working Committee of the Union.
This announcement was made through the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), who also reiterated the government’s promise to complete the Union’s Secretariat during Comrade Etuk’s tenure. This gesture, according to the CPS, underscores the Governor’s recognition of the NUJ’s unwavering support for his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
Comrade Etuk expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s media-friendly disposition, noting that Governor Eno is the first sitting Governor in a decade to personally attend the Union’s Thanksgiving Service. In his remarks, Etuk acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in easing the work of journalism in the state, adding that the hosting of the 2025 Thanksgiving Service in Ikot Ekpene Udo is the Union’s way of honoring him for his contributions.
The donations and pledges further cement Governor Eno’s reputation as a leader invested in the welfare and professional growth of the media community in Akwa Ibom State.
Furthermore, Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, reiterated commitment to pay the state’s civil servants N80,000 minimum wage as he earlier promised.

“About the issues of my workers, the Governor himself saying. We knew certainly that we will pay workers N80,000 as we promised, but we only said that we should do verification.”
The governor disclosed that an advisory report had been submitted and will be presented to him by “the Head of Service.”
“Once that report is presented, for those that were verified, we will pay from 1st November, this January,” he reiterated.
In the social media, Chief Press Secretary Ekerette Udoh, stated that “It does not need any letter from anybody” once a staff is verified.
“Don’t let anybody deceive you that they are the ones who persuaded us to pay,” said the Governor. “If you haven’t been verified into the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, we will not pay you,” Pastor Eno stated that he will not be intimidated irrespective of threats of strike action.
According to the CPS, Governor Eno had cleared N97 billion backlog of gratuities and other arrears of entitlements of workers in the State.
In keeping with his pact to reciprocate their support towards his emergence as governor. Udoh quoted the Governor Saying. “We have a pact with Akwa Ibom workers and we are on course.”

“We will work with you and ensure that your welfare is paramount and continues to be paramount,” the Governor promised.
He warned the workers not to allow themselves be misled by anyone because they know that they are their backbone. “Don’t let anyone mislead you,” he stated.
