With just four days to the Anambra governorship election, INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) on Tuesday sounded the battle cry: “Vote-buying is a cancer that must be cut out.”
Flanked by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun at a packed stakeholders’ forum in Awka, Amupitan declared the commission 100% ready for Saturday’s poll, revealing that 11 of 13 pre-election milestones are already in the bag.
Any INEC staff caught selling the people’s will will be sacked, prosecuted, and named publicly,” Amupitan thundered. “We have issued red cards to vote-buyers. Security agents are watching.”

He confirmed sensitive materials will be opened for party agents to inspect at the CBN vault in Awka on Thursday, while uncollected PVCs are now locked away to stop midnight deals.

IGP Egbetokun promised rapid-response teams at every collation centre and undercover units to nab cash-peddlers.“No sacred cows. If you’re caught with wads of naira at a polling unit, you’re going in.”
