The residence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State, is heavily guarded following the attempted terrorist attack.

Adamawa State Police Command on Monday confirmed the arrest of four people suspected to have planned an attack on Atiku and his properties.

Security has now been beefed up at the residence of the former Vice President in the Dougirei area of Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The attempted attack on the former vice president sent panic to residents of the area with some suggesting a terror attack might have been planned.

Daily Trust quoted a resident of Dougirei, Sani Umar, who said his wife panicked when she heard the news before a neighbor comforted her that the Boko Haram terrorists were already weakened and could no longer operate even in Maiduguri, Borno State let alone in Yola.

Umar further said that residents of the area did not hear gunshots or anything that could cause panic, saying news about the incident broke several hours later.

The Atiku Media Office in a statement on Monday claimed that the Adamawa police arrested a suspect known as Jubrila Mohammed, 29, who confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State.

The Adamawa police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje also confirmed the arrest after which the security operatives said that the arrest of Mohammed at the residence of Atiku helped them in nabbing three other alleged accomplices of the suspect.

The police claimed that the suspects confessed that they were planning an attack on Atiku and his organizations.

According to the police, all four suspects have been handed over to military authorities.

The police further asked that other relevant security agencies remain on top of their brief.

The PDP spokesperson Debo in a statement called for an investigation into the reported attempted terrorist attack on Atiku.
