Atlético Madrid have confirmed that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has arrived in the Spanish capital for medical examinations following an agreement in principle with Atalanta for his transfer.
The La Liga club announced on Friday, January 24, 2026, that Lookman is undergoing routine medical tests ahead of signing a long-term contract. The move is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with the 28-year-old set to join Diego Simeone’s squad during the January transfer window.
Atlético’s official statement read: “Ademola Lookman is in Madrid undergoing medical examinations after reaching an agreement with Atalanta. The player will join our squad subject to the successful completion of his medicals and contract signing.”
Lookman, who has been in sensational form for Atalanta (scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists in 22 appearances this season), is reportedly close to a €60–65 million deal, making it one of the biggest transfers involving an African player in recent years.
The Nigerian international, who rose to prominence at Everton, RB Leipzig, Leicester City, and Fulham before shining at Atalanta, becomes a major reinforcement for Atlético’s attack alongside Julián Álvarez, Antoine Griezmann, and Alexander Sørloth.
