The Bauchi State Government has suspended all commercial activities in 25 cattle markets across four local government areas with immediate effect. The affected markets are spread across Alkaleri (14 markets), Bauchi (1 market), Kirfi (5 markets), and Tafawa Balewa (5 markets).

In a press release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Comrade Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, the suspension was approved by Governor Bala Mohammed to address rising security challenges linked to the markets.

According to the statement, the affected markets have become hotspots for cattle rustling, killings, kidnapping, and extortion, resulting in significant economic losses and threats to the livelihoods of communities in the areas.

The government directed all security agencies to strictly enforce the closure order, which will remain in force until further notice. Local authorities and traditional leaders have been enjoined to sensitise the public and closely monitor compliance with the directive.
