Arsenal defender Ben White has been recalled to the England senior squad for the first time since the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after being named in Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad for upcoming international friendlies.

The 28-year-old right-back has not featured for the Three Lions since leaving the World Cup camp for personal reasons in November 2022. He subsequently made himself unavailable for selection throughout Gareth Southgate’s remaining tenure.

White’s recall comes after Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah withdrew from the squad due to injury. White, who has four England caps (last appearance: 3-0 win over Ivory Coast in March 2022), is now back in contention for the matches against Uruguay (Friday, March 27) and Japan (Tuesday, March 31), both at Wembley Stadium.

Notably, there is still no place in the squad for Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Real Madrid right-back and another option in the same position.

White’s Arsenal teammate Eberechi Eze has also been ruled out of the camp, with Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes (28) called up as his replacement. Barnes won his only previous England cap six years ago.

The friendlies mark Tuchel’s first opportunity to assess players ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and provide a platform for returnees like White to prove their fitness and form.
