In this study, they tested 43 adults with no malaria history. They divided them into groups and let specially modified mosquitos bite them—some carrying parasites designed to induce immunity, others not. When all participants were exposed to malaria afterward, it turns out eight out of nine in one group were protected against it. Pretty impressive numbers! But before we start calling these bugs our new best friends, let’s remember there are serious ethical concerns about skipping informed consent here.
