The Bini Awareness Group (BiAG) has finalized plans for an election to select coordinators for the seven local government areas in Edo South, representing the Bini region. This election aims to enhance transparency and effective representation.

Scheduled for July, the election will be conducted in each local government area of Edo South, where BiAG members will vote for a qualified candidate to act as a liaison between the community and local government authorities.

BiAG’s Worldwide President, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, stated through the group’s Secretary, Edosa Eribo, that “the primary goal is to bring government closer to grassroots people and provide a clear communication path with leaders.”

The election guidelines will be ratified to ensure the process enables BiAG members in each demographic zone to choose suitable candidates responsible for liaising between the community and local government authorities.

Eribo further highlighted that among the general brief, the elected coordinators will be responsible for liaising with local government authorities, coordinating community development projects and facilitating communication and collaboration among stakeholders.

Continuing, he said other critical duties would include “advocacy of aggregate community interests, mobilizing resources and support; and monitoring progress and reporting to the community.”

Edosa Eribo encouraged members to participate in the electioneering process to ensure good representation, stating, “We are excited to take this important step towards bringing sustainable development to our Bini community.”

The election will be held in the following local government areas: Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Orhionmwon, Ovia North, Ovia South, and Uhunmwonde.

According to the guidelines available on DDnewsonline.com, all members of the Bini Awareness Group are eligible to vote. For further inquiries, the general public is advised to contact the Secretary at the BiAG secretariat in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
