BOWFT 2023: 13 Female Teams Set to Participate in The Tournament.

The third edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) is scheduled to kick off on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, in Benin City, Edo State, with 13 female teams participating in the tournament.

The theme for this year’s competition is “End Gender-Based Violence,” and it aims to showcase the talents of female football players in the state while promoting efforts to combat gender-based violence.

The Chairman, Communication Sub-Committee for the tournament, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement, said the tournament will take place from Monday, October 23rd to Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, in the ancient city of Benin.

According to him several venues have been designated for the matches, including the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, University of Benin Sports Complex, Western Boys High School mini stadium, Edo State College of Nursing and Health Sciences mini stadium, and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

The participating teams in the BOWFT 2023 include:

Rivers Angels
Bayelsa Queens
Delta Queens
Robo FC
Naija Ratels
Nasarawa Amazons
Osun Babes
Confluence Queens
Fortress Ladies
Ekiti Babes
Remo Stars Ladies FC
Heartland
The teams are expected to arrive in Benin City on Sunday, October 22nd, 2023. A press conference, the unveiling of the tournament’s mascot, and the draw for the matches will take place on Friday, October 20th, 2023, with the media present to ensure transparency. The first matches will be played on Monday, October 23, 2023, following the opening event at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The tournament will conclude with the third-place and final matches on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Trophies and consolation prizes will be awarded to the participating clubs as part of the closing ceremony.
