Follow up to the colour change of Nigerian currency, the Naira recently, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday released a new policy directive on over-the-counter (OTC) cash withdrawal limit from banks and relevant financial institutions.
According to a statement from the apex bank signed by Haruna B Mustafa, Director of Banking Supervision, OTC withdrawals for individuals and corporations would henceforth be limited to N100,000 and 500,000 respectively, per week.
Withdrawals above the stated limits would attract processing fee of 5% and 10% for individuals and corporations, respectively, while third party cheques above N50,000 will not be eligible for payment over the counter.
The directive also pegged the maximum cash withdrawals at Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at N100,000 per week subject to maximum of N20,000 per day.
The maximum withdrawal at PoS (point of sale) is also now pegged at N20,000 daily.
The CBN warned the banks and other financial institutions to ensure that individuals and corporate bodies adhere to the directive and not exceed the just revised limit.
The revised withdrawal limit will be enforced nationwide with effect from January 9, 2023.
