This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to ensure that every state in Nigeria hosts at least one federal polytechnic, thereby expanding access to technical and vocational education nationwide.

The decision was conveyed in a letter dated January 9, 2025, addressed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

The approval letter, received by Wike’s office on January 16, 2025, tasked the FCT administration with identifying potential sites for the polytechnic’s temporary and permanent campuses within Gwarinpa.

Following the identification of these locations, a team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will conduct an assessment to finalize the most suitable sites.

The establishment of this polytechnic is expected to advance training in technology, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship, contributing to human capital development and addressing skills gaps in Nigeria’s workforce.
