Though no explicit reasons were provided. Dawakin-Tofa expressed gratitude for the journalists’ past work but mentioned “undisclosed issues” as the reason for their withdrawal.

Speculation has arisen over the cause of the ban, with reports suggesting it may be linked to a confrontation between the Kano government’s press crew and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) during a condolence visit after a petrol tanker explosion. This incident allegedly displeased the governor.

Additionally, frustrations were heightened after the journalists sought an unscheduled meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed during a religious event, adding further tension between the press and Kano officials.

This move has raised concerns about the state of media freedom and the relationship between the government and the press in Kano. In fact, a media analyst, who pleaded anonymity, said “it is a direct assault and Press lynching directive”.
