No fewer than nine persons, including four young children, were killed while 11 others sustained injuries in a deadly attack on Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, has triggered fresh fears over the persistent insecurity along the Kaduna–Plateau axis, a region that has witnessed repeated violent attacks in recent times.

According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, armed attackers invaded the community and opened fire indiscriminately on residents.
Most residents of the affected community belong to the Irigwe ethnic group, with strong roots in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Eleven other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in medical facilities.

The National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the attack.
“This killing is unfortunate and unacceptable,” Auta said. “We call on security agencies to immediately investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
He expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks on communities in the area and urged authorities at all levels to strengthen security presence and take urgent steps to prevent further bloodshed.
“The community is currently in mourning. We appeal to the government to restore confidence among residents and halt this cycle of violence,” he added.

The latest attack comes amid heightened national concern over insecurity, as the Senate prepares for an emergency plenary on Tuesday, June 23, to deliberate on the deteriorating security situation across the country.
Kaduna and Plateau states have continued to suffer from banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and communal violence, with vulnerable rural communities bearing the brunt of the crisis.
