There’s palpable excitement in the military family, as the Nigerian Army Council announced the promotion of senior officers to higher ranks following its approval on Thursday, December 19, 2024. A total of 35 Brigadier Generals have been elevated to the rank of Major General, while 73 Colonels have been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

In a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the names of those promoted to the rank of Major General were disclosed.
Professionally, the promotions reflect the commitment of the Nigerian Army to recognizing and rewarding excellence, dedication, and service among its personnel. These elevations are part of routine procedures to strengthen the leadership and operational capacity of the Nigerian Army.
The Army Council has on 19 Thursday, December 2024, approved the promotion of senior officers to the next ranks of Major General and Brigadier General, respectively. A total of 35 Brigadier Generals have been promoted to the rank of Major General, while 73 Colonels have also been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General accordingly.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has congratulated the newly promoted senior officers and their families, urging them to justify their elevation through increased dedication and innovative leadership.
COAS emphasized the importance of leading subordinates by example and developing “out of the box” strategies to address the pressing security challenges facing the nation. Furthermore, he reminded the officers of their oath of allegiance to defend Nigeria and stressed the necessity of unwavering loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
