The suspension, announced Thursday following a motion by Councillor Hon. Asalu Aina Musediq (Ota Ward 2), was unanimously endorsed by the 9th Legislative Council during an emergency plenary. The council accused the chairman of ignoring repeated demands for the LG’s income and expenditure accounts, fueling suspicions of financial mismanagement in Nigeria’s most industrialized local government.
In a joint statement signed by Majority Leader Hon. Bankole Surajudeen (Igbesa Ward) and Deputy Leader Hon. Oseni Lateef Ishola (Alapoti Ward), the council invoked the Ogun State Local Government Administration Law to justify the action, directing Vice Chairman Hon. Abosede Balogun to assume office as Acting Chairman effective immediately.

Councillors described the non-compliance as “a deliberate attempt to obscure accountability,” especially critical given Ado-Odo/Ota’s ₦1.2 billion monthly federal allocation as Ogun’s highest-revenue LG.
The resolution has been forwarded to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State House of Assembly, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and security agencies for investigation.
Ado-Odo/Ota, home to over 1,000 factories and 60% of Ogun’s industrial output, has been a flashpoint for LG crises. Wasiu, an APC loyalist elected in November 2024 amid allegations of deputy governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele’s imposition, now faces scrutiny over project delays and opaque spending.
Supporters of the suspension, including mover Asalu, hailed it as a “stand for transparency.” The embattled chairman, yet to respond publicly, has mobilized allies in Abeokuta, with sources hinting at a potential state intervention to avert escalation.

This is the third LG suspension in Ogun since the Supreme Court’s July 2024 ruling on financial autonomy, following similar clashes in Ijebu East (2023) and Yewa South. As councils wield newfound power over funds, analysts predict more showdowns ahead of 2026 polls.
