The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a major blow with the resignation of a former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Emeka Ihedioha from the party.

In his letter of resignation dated April 23, 2024, addressed to the Chairman of his Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State, the former deputy speaker, who also was Governor of the State briefly before the Appeal Court nullified his victory, cited issues of lack of reward for commitment, loyalty and weak internal conflict resolution mechanism, as the main reasons for his hanging his membership, forthwith.

According to the letter, he said; “In recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress”, he lamented.

The resignation letter did not however, disclose his next move, politically.

For a party struggling to maintain unity and cohesion, this sudden action of the former founding member of the PDP to resign is certainly unfortunate.

Note: This is a developing story and may be updated.
